g'day brains, I'm having trouble to find the right tactis for fishing in tape weed (vallisneria). It grows at about 3ft high and is bend down half way by the river current forming a blanket. The river has a slow current and and excessive amount of weed (hornwort, canadian pond weed, lily). All of this is penetrating the surface, collecting debri and forming a canopy which is not even penetratable most of the year. Then there is the waterway that is cleared by a steam boat. That's where tat tape weed grows. I tossed some chods in there but had a hard time fishing slack lines due to the river current. After an hour or so the presentation was ruined. I'll try chucking a solid PVA bag in there next week, but it will all be well covered by the tape weed.
Looking for somebody out there who has some experience with tape weed. I would normally rather fish elsewhere but this must be tackled.
PS: location is overseas

I would say try a large PVA solid bag with a heavy lead, put holes in it before casting out so it sinks fast.
Should be able to punch through the folded-over stems and get a presentation on the bottom between stems. Not going to be visible from above the weed but if you put fairly smelly attractive pellets/powders in it, they should find it.
Line lay is another thing... I would say cast as upstream as possible (ideally parallel to the folded-over stems), accompany the bag down with the tip so it sinks as vertically as possible, then tighten up as soon as you get the donk, and fish fairly tight lines. Just theory though, and never going to be ideal. Maybe try either a large lump of putty not too far from the bag to at least get som lin pinned down, or go the other way and use a sub float set 1ft deeper than the weed.

I think keeping your rig in place for a hour on a weedy river is good going, personally I'd be resigned to casting very frequently!
