So I went to the Cotswolds with the family and some friends some time back last year and fished a moderate difficulty lake. I done everything, absolutely everything to try and catch a carp, I found them, I fed them, surface fished, but they were having none of it. I was fishing ronnie rigs on the bottom, something I've had plenty of success on over the past two to three years of using them, but on this occasions caught nothing, not even a sniff.
My Dad, who, in his own opinion, does not put nearly close to the effort in or lengths I go to to catch carp, decided to put out 3 standard blow back rigs fishing straight up from the lead with pop-ups on, so in effect, fishing anywhere from 6 to 10 inches off the bottom, and caught 3 using this method!!!
I just wondered if anyone else had success doing this?
I've just started on a very difficult lake, with some big fish in, and I started thinking outside the box on how to approach it, and it just brought me back to the time my Dad out caught me using something, I initially laughed at him about

On a little club runs water years ago this is almost the only way I fished, normal hooklink length with a bit of popped up crust off the lead. Have done it here and there since mainly with pop ups instead and occasionally done ok

And a lost fish
Sometimes it pays to be different and I may even try a long rig on that lake when I go again in 2 weeks time.
Also done the same on the canals in 2019 I fished massive bags (big as my hand you had to drop them in by hand)over big beds of bait and in the near side edge as well,I ended up with 6 carp to 32lb and 3 losses, including 5 runs in 1 trip(caught 3 lost 2)
The way I look at it is most people may fish with mesh mags of pellets and a boilie out the bag on a short hook length by doing something different it may bring an extra fish or 2 well it gives me confidence anyway.
