Hi guys I'm fishing a lake that for some crackhead reason ban's tapered leaders but not a traditional shockleader. I'm using 12lb touchdown which while not a distance casting line casts well enough but cracked off the other day despite always checking all the knots etc before casting or for any nicks, can anyone recommend a decent shock leader mono as braid is banned aswell I would use a snag style leader but the diameters are massive cheers in advance

I still use either clear or black Amnesia in 30lb or Drennan Grey Greased Weasel in 40lb.
I think in Greased Weasel, the grey is softer than the fluorescent and clear (not that you'd use the fluorescent colours), and the black Amnesia is softer than the clear or other colours.

I must warn you Greased Weasel is mega expensive, around £5 for a 50metre spool. The 40lb is around 0.58mm, a bit thinner than standard 40lb mono.

I can't remember what diameter the Amnesia is but I think it's a bit thicker than standard mono.

In terms of casting I learnt years ago, for every ounce of lead, 10lb of breaking strain. Not strict strict as diameters do vary, but just some idea.
Are you sure?
