I've joined a new syndicate lake, it's very weedy and fishing for fish to 45+. Now there is a barbless/crimped Barb rule on there, I've never really fished a weedy lake with a barbless rule and I normally use sharpened hooks. Now would you use a sharpened barbless chod hook or just sharp out of the packet ? Also would you go straight point or beaked ? I want to be using chod rigs but again never used them with barbless hooks.

Whether it's Barbed or not has nothing to do with sharpened or unsharpened. For me I wouldn't not use a unsharpened hook unless in extreme circumstances. And if you're set on a chod I personally prefer a straight point. The only time I'd consider using a beaked point is bottom bait especially a wafter over gravel.
And I wouldn't use barbless I'd use a barbed hook with the Barb crushed.

Beaked or curved shanks are less likely to fall out.
The point is pointing towards the eye so the angle of pull helps get the hook buried to the bend easier.

When using barbless hooks (I don't very often) I always prefer to use a beaked hook just seems to get much better hook holds
I normally use beaked hooks for bottom baits and straight points for pop ups, just never really used barbless so was wondering what people used who had more experience using barbless used.

If you think it gets better hoop holds why wouldn't you use them if not using Barbless?

The shape of the hook shouldn't really be related to the fact it has a barb or not. More for the rig and/or how and what you're fishing over. Just keep things as you were and use barbed hooks but crush them.

I haven't used a barbed hook in quite a few years now and almost always use a size 5 Nash Chod Twister, which has a straight point. This is for both pop-ups and bottom baits.
