After having great success in France using long hairs I have started using them on my Syndicate
Getting brilliant hook holds about inch inside the mouth don't know why I ditched them in the first place lol
Anyone else still using them ,👍

Never stopped using long hairs.

On Brackens I used to get other members comment on how long the hair was.

I always found I got better hooking rate with a 'proper' hair.

20mm between top of bait and bend of the hook.

Edited to prevent myself from looking a tit.

Bottom of bait or top ??
20mm doesn't leave much if it's bottom on a 16mm bait that's 4mm

Personally I wouldn't class that as long

Done quite a bit of experimenting with long hairs and always wrap the braided hair round the shank a few times before pinning in place with silicone enabling me to lengthen or shorten them.
I found when fishing over particles I couldn't go too long because the way they seemed to feed, whilst boilies I could go longer on one water, don't see many using them these days.

I usually make the hair long enough for the hook to lie flat on the bottom of the lake,so the bigger the bait the longer the hair. I have used hairs up to 1.5 inches and caught well on them. I'm talking boilie fishing not particles.

Are you guys talking when using Pop ups or bottom baits or both? Used to use about 15mm gap on a standard hair rig or Withy Pool and bottom bait.

Long hairs went out of fashion when carp started doing A levels and realised if they rolled the bait around in their lips, checking if it was safe, they would not get caught as much. This is instead of sucking a bait into their mouth and crushing it in their pharyngeal teeth in their normal manner developed by 1000 of years worth of evolution

Trends and the sheep make things go out of fashion sadly

The separation with the right length hooklink can provide excellent hookholds

I'm talking about bottom baits, where carp are actively sucking baits up and into their mouths.
