Hi,
Has anyone got an experience with a hybrid ronnie and chod rig? (Roddie Rig)
I'm talking about putting a Ronnie/Spinner directly on the helicopter lead-core setup. I've seen it somewhere before and am curious about everyone's thoughts on the idea of it.
To put the idea in context... I've been thinking about it recently, as Im fishing a very clear lake bed at the moment, but in the winter months, there are dead leaves and twigs at the bottom. I feel a chod is a little inconspicuous when fishing over a light scattering of bait, especially if the fish has its nose down. Yet I still want the properties of that lead to plug in, not knowing what the bottom is like. Although, I don't necessarily want to fish a helicopter set up with a hook length as I want the pop-up right up off the bottom, with 0% of a tangle over a twig, etc.
Will it be too short?
Is the lead core likely to spook a feeding fish, as opposed to a chod where it's normally a lured reaction higher off the bottom?
Will the Ronnie rig be too short for the fish to "hang itself"?
Thanks in advance

i tried this method fair few years ago.. an angler on my syndicate called it the No Rig, it was pretty much before ronnies really hit the mags etc and In all honesty it was horrendous, the hook holds were all over and never consistant. top lip, bottom lip, face and in a couple of cases the fins. there really isnt much difference between this and a really low choddy but the end results are miles apart.
