I keep seeing peoples ronnies on soft braided hooklengths and cant get my head around why ?!
Clearly, on a stiffer coated or a stiff boom, the ronnie swivel offers complete rotation/movement.
On braid
supple braid is the movement, so why the swivel/ronnie. I cant see how the swivel rotates as effectively on soft supple braid or what the swivel even brings to this variation.
Its swivel for swivel sake - fashion ?

I agree. However, it has to be said that the idea is different and different tends to be good in my experience.

The only reason I can think to do that would be to maintain the quick change properties of the hook? But agree, it seems a strange idea. If I can remove metal from my rigs without losing performance then I will not add it in for the sake of it
