Quick Change Stems with clip swivel? (11 posts / 1,639 views)

Currently I'm fishing solid bags and I use the Avid Quick Change Stems with a large loop in my mainline to easily change bags.

I also tie a small loop at the end of the big loop to make taking it off easier and have always done this...

... however after a dozen or so changes, the mainline starts twist/kink/crumple so to speak when taking the old bag off.

And I wondered if using a simple clip swivel on the end of my mainline would be an alternative solution? Or do you guys see this causing problems?

Thoughts?

I know it's not the question that you asked but why not think about making the bags as you go,
Then you don't need to worry about the attachment to main line as it's not changed.
I reckon I can make a bag in less than 20 seconds if the bait is already attached so always do it that way.
Just a thought

Yeah not a bad shout, might give that a go next time and see

I can make the bags up quick enough so worth a try.

I always make my bags up as I go.
The only problem is my own impatience if I miscast, not drying everything off properly before rebagging.

It also gives me the option of lead inside, with rig outside (lick and stick or tied to a pendant lead ), but hook nicked into outside corner, rig inside or whole lot lead and rig inside.

Blow off any excess water from the lead clip and swivel, and have some boilie crumb or pellet powder to drop the lead and all the bits in to further dry any residual moisture.
Make bags as you go, much better for the soul.

Exactly as Baitman said. I use liquidised boilies in bag mixes along with a few pellets and stuff.
This dries the swivel etc enough so you can make a new one and recast.

Yeah gives the ability to choose the lead setup.

Assume you're not using either a leader or tubing then - just fishing naked?

If you're premaking bags I'd just ditch the mainline loop and tie a palomar or uni knot direct to the fused loop. I do this using the Gemini stems - yes you lose a few inches of line when you snip the old stem knot off but a knots more streamlined and will sit under a silicone sleeve and provide a seemless link to a further length of tubing

Not sure I'd use link swivels - more clutter for the fish to drag around and get snagged in the event of a mainline break etc

Yeah I think I'll do that so I can introduce a tail rubber and length of tubing to the rig.
Are you sure?
