Does anyone else just put an over hand knot to the shank to help the hair sit better instead of using silicone or rings?

I just wrap the knot less knot around far enough down the hook so you get same effect
Seems to work for me

I'll often tie a hair directly to the shank or bend of loose hooks, then Multi rig loop or tie the hook on with a palomar. Is good for floater/float fishing because you can set the position and length of hair perfectly and don't lose entire hooklinks to change hook. I tie bottom baits right down on the bend and pop ups/floaters half to 2/3 the way up the shank from the eye, naturally the pop up needs a dot of glue or something for a big cast or heavy bait but the bottom bait never moves

Whipping knot up the shank to where you want the hair to exit and then standard knotless knot at the eye if fishing a combi or similar

Ive just seen a rig on FB where the guy suggests using a ring on the inside of the shank blow back style very similar so the hook seems to rotate better on a tight line between lead and bait. I thnk thats the suggested principle. Think it was gardner.

Daryl Peck suggested using an overhand loop on the shank a few years ago. Seemed to work well for him (yet again!) but I found that it would move up or down the shank and wasn't as reliable as using a ring or using a longer knotless knot
