how can i improve my rig (german rig & d-rig) when using wafters/balanced tigernuts if im hooking the fish on the side of their mouth? German rig / D-rig with balanced bait about 20 centimeter long and with some lead on about the middle of the rig length about slightly closer to the hook?

Hook is a Korda kurv shank size 4 with korda iq2 soft

thanks in advance

There are so many variables in relation to how a fish is hooked. How they are feeding, how they react to the hook, which way they move away from the lead, direction they approached it from, debris, size of the fish. I really wouldnt worry about it. If you are getting good hook holds, then stick with what you are doing. Dont over think it

As others have said you could just leave it and continue to catch them,

I've always associated side hooking fish with a hooklink that is too long, so the fish is being hooked as it attempts to blow the rig back out, and not initially as it first sucks it in.

Try shortening your hookling on one rod and see how it goes, try an inch at a time and look at future hook holds.

In my experience stiff rigs with bottom baits/waiters are often more inconsistent with hookholds anyway. The mechanics of the rig don't guarantee bottom lip hooking.

As long as the hook holds are secure my advice would be to stop worrying and catch carp.

I just don't understand why people seem to be so obsessed with hooking carp in the middle of the bottom lip? Most of my fishing is with mono or stiff hooklengths and I book fish in the sides of the mouth regularly and lose very few.

Stiff hook links very regularly hook in the side of the mouth. Don't worry about it. Not enough play in the hook link to allow it to drop and turn into the bottom lip. One think you can try is tying with a loop at the leadclip / quick change end. This allows more movement in the hook link and I find improves hookholds. Gardner do a good video on YouTube explaining it. Called 'clone rig' watch it.

As far as I am concerned that is how most people including me have been tying stiff rigs/booms since they first arrived many moons ago. Clone rig indeed. Sorry most certainly not up for grabs to the latest influencers
