Wanting to pin the hair to the hook shank of a size 8 mugga hook.
Tried the Korda and also thinking anglers stuff - impossible. Far to thin.
Before i go out and waste more money can anyone recommend a good silicon sleeve for this / tubing.
Thanks.

Buy some narrow shrink tube and shrink it on. Much better

I use 0.5mm ESP silicone tube, but I think it is as thin as the ones you are using. I thread the hair through the tubing with a baiting needle and then I push the hook point through the tubing. A bit fiddly but not impossible.

I use the Korda 0.5mm stuff with a size 6 wide Gape x, grips nice and tight.

I do it the other way,put tubing on the hook then thread baiting needle through and pull hooklink through the silicone.I find this way the hook point does not catch the braid

Alternatively just tie the hook on and then tie a hair directly to the hook at the point you want the silicone.
It works well for me, maybe not great for big casting but neither is silicone and tying direct does grip better

I will try that next time
You are right the point can catch the hair. I didn't think that I could get the baiting needle through the silicone tube once it was on the hook.

Ended up using shrink tubing in the end. Much easier

Noj, what knot do you use. Snell?

...Or extend the turns (if using the knotless knot) further down the shank, stopping at the required spot.
...and shouldn't this thread be on the Rigs board?

That does work if using a fairly fine braid to tie the knotless knot ( I used to do it that way) ,but not really with all hooklink materials.

Just a blood knot or grinner mate. I use light mono for the hair usually and a lighter mono hook link than/or my mainline palomar knotted to the hook eye. Have used that float fishing and stalking since the 80s, Christ lol
Suppose you could glue it

This topic raised its head in April, about using tubing and getting your hair and hook through the tubing and not getting the hook point snagged.
It's very simple to do and never snags if you do it right. After you have threaded the braid through the small piece of tubing, pull the braid tight between finger and thumb at the points where it enters and exits the piece of tubing which should also then be pulled up tight against the tips of your finger and thumb. This has the effect of pulling the braid tight and up against the wall of the tubing inside. Once done, just carefully push the hook point through on the other side of the tubing to the braid.
No need for baiting needles, etc and far faster.

Far quicker pop the silicone on hook, pop thin needle through and pull hooklink through. No messing holding any tiny bits of silicone. No matter how careful I am I always end up snagging the braid or tearing the silicone which really naffs me off
