What's the best loop knot / I've been using the rapala is this as strong as the perfection loop knot?

A well tied figure of eight knot. Comes out top in tests over many years. Mono, fluoro, braid or coated braid, doesn't matter.

What is the purpose of the loop? If it's for attaching a chod section for stiff hinge for example then the rapala knot is my preferred. It's easier to tie onto a ready tied chod section, and it is designed to sit straight (why it was invented)
A figure 8 knot is fine for attaching hooklink to your lead clip but it doesn't sit straight, so no good for the above reason IMO.

If tied correctly with care the figure of eight sits flat and straight and is perfect for loops. Sounds to me like you are tying it with a twist and/or pulling it inside out.
The rapala knot was invented to attach lures(as its name implies) using a fixed loop. More complex to tie than a fig8. Loop to loop is the way to go.

Good points
I use a figure of 8 wherever possible. It is a strangulation knot though, i think there are better for fluro
To the Op, google, no slip loop knot, maybe worth a try, I am guessing you have had the Fluro part like cotton at the knot with a fish?
Not sure if a Palomar would be any good for you pending diameter?
Plenty of lubrication and pull together very slowly. Test all your knots

Perfection loop gives the best presentation but isn't as strong, so with stiff filament that's overrated for what you actually need it's ok. With fluoro a Rapala or non slip loop is usually the best bet.

Sometimes it's easier to use a swivel with a ring when using fluro
and just tie your usual knot , I've found my own knot , it's probably been invented already though 🤣

I use a loop a lot in my fishing because 90% of my approach is a solid PVA bag - loop to loop as in mono loop to a PVA bag stem and I use a "surgeons" knot.......it's knot let me down yet
