Hi All,
Other than the ronnie (most use this on my water) So I want to change away from it, what pop up rig would you recommend?

Multi with Krank Choddy 4 is my mostly used pop up rig for the past years.

A simple pop up presentation could be as simple as a coated braid, how stiff depending on the bottom, a bit stripped back an inch from the hook, pinch a split shot on and just have a knotless knot to whatever hook you like. Simple but effective.
If you would like to know how to tie it there is a vid on the Fishing Tutorials YouTube channel by Carp and Alex where they show you how to tie it. This is where I got this rig from. Hope it helps!

100% a multi rig and as mr townley said, a match the hatch hookbait
Most ronnie sheep are banging out high vis pop ups soaked in goo with 20 spods of munga at 40 wraps....bosh!
If you must use a pop up, do so, but in a different way to everyone else

When I do use pop ups which tbh isn't very often I prefer a wafter or bottom bait (I do use pop ups when fishing in and around weed) I use a multi rig I'm not that confident in Ronnie rigs like every else seems to be, seen a few to many hook pulls with it for my liking
Multi rig with a size 4 Kamakura Choddy Hook for me.

Your initial post suggests that you want to move off the R rig as everyone is on it. But if all you do is change from one low pop up rig to another, you haven't changed anything.
Having watched numerous carp feed in the margins they will often blatantly ignore anything not hard on the bottom, even a wafter which is off the bottom will be ignored.
As Ken says try a bottom bait, if you can't due to weed, chod etc, then changing from a ronnie rig to another pop up rig will alter nothing .... in my opinion of course 👍

Roger Smith only had two rigs, a normal rig for bottom baits, and 1 with a shot on for pop ups......

Thanks all, tried bottom baits and wafters last night with no luck. The area I was fishing was not clean though, the lake is very silty and has lots of crap / leafs on the bottom. In some swims there are simply no clean areas at all as the lake in very old and they have never done anything to combat the silt.
I will preserve though! Thank you.

Might be worth trying a reverse combi rig a la Ian Russel flick rig. Has worked for me. Tie the pop up as low or high as you think necessary.

My lake is very silty, the bottom has many, many leaves and twigs (and branches) littering it and yet bottom baits still catch the majority of fish overall.
Put a little stick on the hooklink to make sure your hook reaches the bottom without being masked and you're well on the way IMO.

After all, the natural food / freebies aren't hovering 2” above the silt are they?
