Funnily enough I'm late to the party with the ronnie. I've almost refused to use it for the last few years as every other angler on the bank was using it. Decided to try it over the course of this winter as I wanted a low lying pop up rig, fished alongside a bottom bait rig on the other rod.

Out of 5 fish over winter, the bottom baits picked up 2 mid doubles, the ronnie rig picked up 1 x 21lb, 1 x 31lb 2oz amd 1 x 37lb which is a new PB.

Could be complete fluke, but so far it's done me well

I think every lake will be different. I used a snowman for years and love it, and tbh in the summer on rock hard lakebeds it's my go to. However I do think the ronnie has its place, on hard lakebeds that may have leaf litter scattered on them etc.

Just a case of seeing what works on your water I suppose

Still think the Hinge Stiff is the ultimate pop up rig

I think any rig you can fish with confidence is the ultimate rig. Every lake will differ, the fish wil have been hammered on different rigs, will feed in different ways and used to feeding on different baits. I honestly don't think there is an ultimate rig

I was also a late trier of the ronnie rig, been a multi rig user for years but a mate of mine has done really well on it so I started using it on my new syndicate in November, just fished over little bits and pieces I've been really happy with it, 15 bites 15 landed on a really tricky lake and the hook holds have been really good, generally in the centre of the bottom lip, a rig il definitely use a lot more when I'm fishing small 12mm pop ups over the little bits and pieces 👍 6.5 inches of Korda boom to a size 6 angling iron curve is what I use.

So I've gone for stiff braid for the moment, but rather than a standard not like a lot do using braid I've gone for a figure 8 so I have a small loop, just to allow that little bit more movement. Size 6 J Precision Wide gape is my preference
