Hi, just curious what peoples thoughts are on the advantages of tying a combi rig using mono/ braid over stripping back a coated braid?

One difference would be the supposed ‘invisibility' of the fluoro, but other than that the coated braid version does pretty much the same thing, and with one less knot to worry about. If

If you have a coated braid which has the properties you require when it's coated and stripped fine. If not use two different materials to get exactly the rig you require.

Rigmarole hydrolink makes combi rigs a doddle, take out some of the fluorocarbon inner and you have a perfect combi rig with no knots connecting materials

I use both versions.

My combi-rig is Amnesia to braid, or even coated braid to give me the effects that I want.
The combi-rig on Amnesia, with a loop knot at the mainline swivel end, in theory, gives more freedom, total 360 movement. This could be enough for the fish to believe the hookbait is untethered.

I do accept that it could also give the freedom to eject.

The hooklink mono or fluoro to braid knot also makes a very good spot for holding putty, so pop-up rigs can be made.

Do check the rig after every fish, as knots can get stretched, tensioned or slip.

The coated braid version obviously avoids knots. You can loop knot the mainline end, but it does pull straight with any tension.
The coating on coated braid can strip as it goes through weed, or 'fracture' as it gets pulled over gravel, even knotting can cause the coating to break. I have had various coated braids strip themselves through weedy waters, and Kryston (under Dave Chilton) was the best.
Are you sure?
