The softer/dirtier/weedier the bottom, the longer the boom

Id go with 4-5" on a ronnie, so it fishes like a mini hinged stiff rig.
On the german id use a 7-8" hook length.

I fish a German/turbo German type rig on a lead clip set up for pretty much all my angling on my current syndicate. I generally use the esp x stiff coated braid as the boom and fish it about 8-9 inches in the silt or where I think it's not super clean, and 5-6 on the gravel. On certain spots I'll also switch to a section of korda boom 👍🏻
