I have a couple of questions on the Ronnie Rig.
1. Can you use a Ronnie Rig with a bottom or wafter bait?
2. Is there a reason that bait crews are not used on the Ronnie Rig?
Thanks in advance.

1. never used anything but pop ups personally, but believe buoyant baits are recommended over bottom baits. May not be the most efficient hooker on bottom baits, but i cant see why it 100% wouldnt work.
2. Bait screws are used on them, but you wont see them used by korda sponsored anglers for example, because korda dont sell them. I dont personally use them, but others do

The Ronnie is specifically designed to be used with pop ups
There is a rig very similar to the Ronnie that is designed for use with bottom baits/wafters - google the 'turbo german rig'
The main different is the removal of the ring so it doesn't have a 'hinge'.

The ronnie can 100% be used with bottom baits of wafters. The 'turbo german' is essentially just a ronnie with a bottom bait on it!

The German rig is a stiff rig. The flexi ring on the ronnie means it has a hinge and is not the same.

So they do. My bad. Obviously weren't out when any of the stuff I've watched has been recorded then.

I disagree, the hinge on a Ronnie creates the potential for the rig to double back on itself and tangle if used with a heavy bait. The turbo German gets round this.

Exactly

I had my best season using the Ronnie for the first time a few seasons ago, all fish caught (and well hooked) using bottom baits with a fake piece of corn topper. I see the technical possibility mentioned below, but fish with confidence using a bottom bait, I also used to do well with the Withy Pool rig fishing bottom baits 👍

I always use a bait screw on my Ronnies, especially given a few waters I fish have regggies - worth noting that you need to match bait size to hook sizes - when I first used them I was tying a size 6 to fish a 15mm pop-up - was occasionally getting done on that, then switched to a size 4 and it was nailing them - with the size 6, it works with a 12mm pop up. I much prefer a hing ringe for pop ups, but ronnies are useful - given you can use them with stringers or mesh bags - giving you a low-level pop up with some feed close to the hook bait. I only use them with pop ups though, there's much better presentations for wafters or bottom baits that a ronnie...

I found exactly the same with this rig, size 6 angling iron curve with a 12mm pop up has done 15 landed from 15 with almost perfect hook holds everytime, mates have used with 15mm pop ups and lost a few, does anyone use the ronnie with 15mm cork balls and size 4's ? How are the hook holds with this setup.

Potential. The Ronnie 100% works with bottom baits. 5 fish during a testing session, all absolutely nailed.
