Hi, was intending on fishing solid bags on a water this winter, but the lake is quite silty and has fair amount of silver fish in so fishing with small pellets cant see them lasting long. Anyone got any alternatives to solid bag. As want as much attraction as possible but not to much bait. Thanks

I watched one of the new mark pitchers videos about fishing in silt he said he used to do it all the time time he had a underwater camera then he realised the bag was well out of view and I'd er the silt not fishing at all, up to that point he used to use them all the time.

Tbh tho how deep is the silt? If it's not that deep I would be that worried the carp will feed in the silt happily, if not try a helicopter setup with a small pva mesh bag on the hook

Spread of boilies from catapult or throwing stick and fish bottom baits or wafters into the silt. Deep silt fish a heli, otherwise please yourself. Fish WILL Find the bait

They always find the bait. It's just wether they find it quick enough. I always have my bait on the right spot, it's just I'm gone by the time they come hahaha

If you don't ***** the bag to let the air out they will sink slowly and sit on top of the silt, then so long as there are no nuisance fish to interfere they will present a bait very nicely until the carp come along

Can also add some pva nuggets to help it touch down a little softer

I've tested my bags on very soft silt and they sit on the top very nicely, I use the 60mm x 120mm bags.
But yes a couple of nuggets would make them even lighter

One thing I do is smell my hook baits some silty areas taint your bait more than others.

I agree, that's another sign my bags were sitting on top, the wafter hookbaits came back smelling lovey even after 12 hours

If I don't want to many food items and a lot of attraction I use crumb and quite a lot of liquid in pva bags.
I know someone who use to tie either wool or super silk up there helicopter leaders, when the lead plugs into the silt he said it stains the material so he knows how far he s plugging into it.I've personally not tried it so know idea if it works.I like the lateral thinking though.

That's an old trick that does work in some kinds of silt. Use a light coloured natural yarn or thread and keep a high rod and tight line. Give it minimum 5 mins in place. Old schoolbut wortt a try in the right circumstance.

On a heli rig always worried that the top bead might move with the weight of a pva bag on it.

Fish them with the lead in the bag or use an inline lead with a large eye swivel at the base of it to tie a mesh bag to (like you would on Maylin's Mag Aligner setup). The bag on the lead creates a larger surface area so doesn't sink as far into silt (unless very soft stuff & adding some buoyant elements to the bag such as foam nuggets or a dryish light powder mix, will negate it even more). No chance of the rig pushing the top bead up then.

Give it a try as it works really well as long as the bag is tied super tight (even when used with a larger bag with some air trapped inside it like a balloon)
Are you sure?
