Evening everyone,

Having just got back from a couple hours fishing thought I'd ask some advice.

My hooklength on my zigs seems to keep on twisting, I haven't changed anything so wondering if it maybe my 11lb korda zig line gone bad?

Set up is as follows - MCF dumper lead clips, 11lb zig line, fig 8 loop attached to the clip, down to zig aligner and size 8 mixa hook!

Never had problems before

Check there's no crap in your hooklink swivel and that it spins nice and freely. Zig aligners spin like buggery when you reel in. Worth shelling out for some decent swivels like the ESP high performance for zigs.

It's defo not the line mate. Twist has to be physically applied to the line, it cannot twist itself.
Are you putting pva/starch foam on the hook prior to casting? To help with separation of hooklink/lead on the cast?
If so, the foam has crappy aerodynamics. it can spin as it flies leading to twisting of the line. I ditched pva/starch foam some time ago because of this. Even if you're not using foam, the zig aligner itself has pretty rubbish aerodynamics and might be leading to twist as it spins in the air.
I now put an old pop up in pva mesh and hook that onto the hook prior to casting. Obviously that's round, and has a little extra weight, which seems to eliminate the spinning/twisting.

I get the same when zig fishing but the twisting comes on the retrieve
Just let it untwist and cast out again - no dramas

What made me feel better was dropping a twisted hook link in the edge and seeing it untwist naturally in the water - even if twisted would soon sort itself out if that makes sense

There is a lot more resistance winding in through water than casting through the air - this is where it happens

That's an interesting theory mate.
If it happens on the retrieve why doesn't it come in twisted every time?
I'm not suggesting you're wrong - I have a genuine interest to discuss this (there is nothing worse then suspecting your zig has been twisted all night!).
My pop up in mesh trick seems to result in no twist when I bring them in so I was entirely convinced I'd solved the problem - but your post is making me think twice.
Good news with your findings in the edge

I guess the amount of twist is dictated by the specific imbalance of a given hookbait, which could explain why it wouldn't always twist on the retrieve......

Ive found foam twists a lot more than small pop ups but get twist most of the time on retrieve to be honest

To double check the theory you could cast along the bank if there is enough room or along in the edge

Cheers guys, plenty to go on.
I'll let you know next week with my findings.

I've never really had it happen to me before, so found it strange

Ball bearing swivels

Also wind in a bit slower if you're doing it quick
Are you sure?
