Started fishing a new lake which is pretty silty,
Would I be good to use a fluro d rig with a balanced bottom bait if I fished it on a heli set up?
Cheers

Yep, caught my first thirty years ago doing that exact same thing on an estate lake full of the stuff

I'm fishing a big silty low stock lake at the moment and just don't seem to be able to buy a bite.
My confidence is at a super all time low at the moment.
All my tried and trusty tactics just don't seem to work on this place. Its a real headbanger.
fluro D rig, sounds like one I should give a try.
How are you baiting up on your silty lake?

make sure you move that top bead up a good 12-18 inches though, what feels like a few inches of silt could be a foot!
some pva foam on the hook as well to make sure its laying above the sit and not in it.

Keeping everything out of the silt definitely isn't always the best way forward. Finding the right bit of silt is key IMO.

Yep. I'm pretty sure I'm in the good stuff.
I have been on showing fish and still can't buy a bite.
I'm beginning to think its just that my bait isn't attractive enough. I have been feeding glugged up live system by throwing stick or catapult at short range and match the hatch and fluros over the top. A tactic that as worked for me well on other waters. Providing I'm on fish. But doesn't seem to work on this particular head banger of a lake.

I fish a silty lake regularly and find if fishing over bait its best to actually use short rigs and let the bait actually be pulled into the silt as time and time again when using chods or long rigs and light leads to keep the bait on top of the silt id not get a bite when the fish were clearly smashing the loose feed and then after finally getting a bite it ended being foul hooked in the pec fin, however if just using singles I just use standard lead clip set up with a long Ronnie rig for popup or slip d for water or bottom bait. Hope that makes sense lol

No worries, it seems the fish were just feeding deep in the silt below the hookbait, the frustration of seeing the spots turning into black, bubbling cauldrons and not even getting a beep led me to try it as literally the whole lake is covered with between 1 and 2 ft of silt so finding hard spots wasn't really an option, but it does take a leap of faith casting a 4 inch rig attached to a 3 or 4oz lead into 2 ft of silt but its got to be worth a go even on just 1 rod. Good luck mate and hope it works you.

I fish the same 2 1/4oz semi fixed in line lead set up as I do on a clay bottom lake. The estate lake I fish is also soft deep silt everywhere. Heli set ups are banned so once I got my head round the fact they love feeding in that muck I just lengthened my hooklink a little to about 8" and have had a cracking season on there. It's taken a while as it's the first propper old silty lake I've fished.
