Have you got a preference with lead size?

I always used to enough to get to where I wanted to cast so in most cases max 2.5oz

But a lot of people I see today are using 3 or 4oz or even bigger as one guy on my local has 5oz leads to fish short range

Bigger the better for me, to set the hook properly. Since stepping up to minimum 3oz and usually bigger I've very rarely lost a fish. 100% makes a difference imo

biggest I can get away with.
3-4oz is my norm.

as what IP said, rarely lose fish I hook when using big leads.

+1 generally 7

Always a 3oz lead unless casting at a showing fish or fishing a naked chod over light weed, also felt it helped my casting by being more consistent to chuck the same weight

There is a channel here (Albertkanaal) where around 8.5 oz lead is needed even if you fish short range

Standard i fish with 3.25 oz distance lead (heli setup)

3 or 4oz for me, as mentioned gives confidence in setting the hook best as possible.

I use leads varying from 4 to 8 ounce depending on the venue and lakebed

I generally max out at 2.5 ounces and lose at most 1 in every 25 fish I hook - think rig mechanics are more relevant than lead size personally.
