Hi Chaps,

I have been pondering rigs etc. In light of my recent take which resulted in a hook pull.... it was using a terry Hearn bottom bait rig with the silicone tubing with double bottom baits..... i normally use y tried and trusted rigs and the TH rig is not amongst them, i used this rig as i wanted to be different and not many on the lake use big baits or double baits....this tactic worked cos i got the only run of the weekend...but it didn't get a proper hold which resulted in a hook pull....my first in a good while....

Do the majority on here use re setting rigs...

With rigs which use silicone tubing, yes when you reel in you can see if you have been done....but if you have been done,... you could have been fishing with an ineffective rig for a number of hours (depending how often you recast etc.) what are other people's thoughts on this.....

I use silicone on the shank of the hook - although it won't reset if the silicone slides down the shank it basically becomes a standard hair rig which I am fine with. I find the hook holds great and very rarely (less than 1 in 25) loose a fish, always nailed in the bottom lip.

What size hook and bait were you using? Bigger hook could be the answer.

Bottom bait rigs will not re-set. And one lost fish is not enough to change rigs.

If you want a re-set rig, try a wafter or pop-up eg multi-rig.

I think I remember Terry Hearn explaining the rig mechanics and that you might need to experiment with the actual rig length for it to become more effective.

I use a size 6 cryogen gripper with a 16mm bottom bait generally.

Maybe lengthen the hair / hook link.

If you want to use a bottom bait, use a stiffer hooklink to help-re set (but nothing like a pop-up would) and a short hair

A simple Thinklink/ Flouro bottom bait D rig set up on a helicopter using the Thinking Anglers double ring swivels will always reset and thanks to mounting the bait on a D you dont have to worry about the hook silicone being moved out of place

Happy to use a SlipD with a bottom bait and have done with success. It out fishes the Claw Rig or as some people call it the Terry Hearn bottom bait rig

Just started using this rig myself and had no issues aswell, all hooked nicely in the bottom lip.
