Is there anything on the market like the old Dacron to make a really fine hair?

If it is just for the hair, and not the hook link too, then use cotton

Nash do hair braid, kryston used to do one called samson too, no idea if it's still available
Polyester sewing cotton. Any colour you like and cheap. Don't use cotton cotton, not strong enough.

Drennan Feeder Braid in low breaking strains if you can get hold of it.
Korda Supernatural in 18lb would be second choice.
Both miles better as a hair than Dacron.

I have used rod whipping thread after reading Shaun Harrison's posts over the years...especially like the Red one as mimics a blood worm etc...

I've used a variety of materials for making the hair:
Whipping thread, fine mono, dental floss, (supermarket rather than tackle brand), Kryston Samson even Merlin, and I sometimes save old hooklinks just so I can use the material rather than just bin it.
All work nicely, although mono can be cut by crayfish.

Surprised n one has mentioned the original hair material. Actual human hair
Ala Mrs Kevin Maddocks from back in the day. A more finer material you'd be hard to find. Alright if you've got a understanding Mrs with long hair who'd be willing to donate. Wouldn't advise trying to snip a few strands of the long haired lady in front of you on the buss into work. Take some explaining to the police that one.
