Hello,

I'm interested to hear peoples thought's on this. I've been tying up a few Ronnie's today, i'm using an overhand loop to attach the hooklink to the swivel like Kev Hewitt's here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f7H9wvF2wvE

No matter what hooklink i use when it comes to testing the knot strength with my pulla tools i'm getting it cracking/peeling off the knot and eventually breaking on a good strong pull. I have also tried a grinner/uni and still getting the same results. Would this be the case of myself pulling too hard on the tools? or have my selection of hooklink materials gone funny!!

Thx

What hooklink are you using? Most people can break a 20/30lb hooklink if you pull hard enough. Also what you need to remember is that you will be able to pull on that hooklink alot hard than any carp ever will be able to once hooked using a rod. The rod will absorbs alot of the force. For coated braids id use a figure of 8 loop knot much stronger than an overhand loop knot

I use a fig of 8 loop knot on the esp semistiff with no probs at all and get well over 20lb knot strength, the knot has worked well for me with most coated braids however i found korda hybrid stiff very poor on knot strength

Another one for the fig 8 knot. Been using it for decades in all material. Absolute confidence in it. A far better knot than the overhand. Some coated hook links do not take kindly to being knotted. For QD and at least some movement tie on a link loop with a carefully bedded palomar knot.

I also use the Fig-8 loopknot with ESP Tungsten Loaded for my Ronnies.
No problem what so ever.

The best knot for any braid is a double overhand

Its much stronger than a figure of 8

This is very good. Makes a really neat small loop, just how I like it. And no crinkles or distortion of the line.
