Has anyone purchased or managed to use pre lockdown?
I like to use braid for my hinge stiff rigs and have been using Korda N trap, but it is a bit thick for my liking and has to be steamed to be straight.
What are people's thoughts on using tungsten loaded for a boom? Is it stiff enough?

I have some of it but didn't get chance to use it in a fishing situation, its not as user friendly as the semi stiff which pulls straight off the spool and imo does have to be steamed straight.
It is stiffer than the korda n trap and more comparable with the 20lb hybrid stiff but not quite as stiff but unlike hybrid stiff the esp gave me very strong knot strength.
To compare diameters for you the spools are all rated at 20lb the n trap i have is 0.6mm the hybrid stiff is 0.58mm and the esp x stiff is 0.57mm dia

I've tied a few booms up with it, I like it. Deffo needs steaming straight though.

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to find a decent braid for booms, but not something that needs steaming.

Most semi stiff - stiff coated braids need steaming to be honest to get best results for booms. Only the soft coated braids really you can get away with not steaming. The Korda Kamo is inbetween a soft and semi-stiff coated braid and doesnt need steaming. I use it alot and its good stuff! Knots really well aswell. Stiff enough to kick the bait out but doesnt need steaming.

Cheers, reckon it's stiff enough for a boom? Can't be dealing with tangles!

Yes mate. I use it for 95% of my fishing.

I've been lucky enough to have been using it for some time now.
Put simply it has all of the same attributes of the other versions of the tungsten loaded but when steamed it is much more rigid.
If you like the other versions you will get on well with this

Have a look at Nash Skin Link the skin is very tough and sinks really well. I use the stiff 20lb and you can use it straight off the spool if you rub it through your hands a few times to warms it up and pull it tight it goes fairly straight but still stiff.. The skin is tough though gd for angling and never fractures at the knots but you need a stripper tool to strip it. The inside is kevlar fibres too.. exceptionally tough, it's all I use these days never get any tangles on singles at long range. I do generally steam it, but you could get away without it just about, closest you'll get to a proper stiff braid you could use without steam.

Agree, Nash stuff is superb stuff.

Might have a look thank you. Shame I can't ‘feel' any of these in person! Is the nashy stuff stiff enough for a boom?
I prefer strong uncoated braids of around 25 to 35lb
They are naturally semi stiff.
I spent years (and a fortune) finding the best ones. Some of them are absolutely horrible and disgracefully thin and abrasive.
