I used to use a curve shank style hook fished blowback style (either rig ring or silicone tubing to trap the hair), but last season I started using the slip D rig on a conventional long shank pattern, with just a short shrink tube kicker. I've been very happy with the results - great hook holds and no lost fish.

Which long shanks do you use mate ? I used to use them and did well on them but stopped as I was fishing snaggy waters, but may give them a try again as I'm fishing a lake with a lot of open water fishing now.

I tried the atomic ones recommended by Yonny on here, they're great, no issues but I must admit to also being impressed by a company called ‘The last Yard' I bought some in barbless for some holiday fishing and they were faultless. So much so I bought the barbed versions for my regular fishing, and they're relatively inexpensive too.

German rig, massive curve shank hook. Unbeatable imo

I use a blowback rig with a longshank hook and a short kicker. The best hook I have found is the Nash longshank twister in sizes 5 and 6

Second "the last yard" hooks. Excellent for the job.

Slip D with a curve shank, can't beat it for a balanced bait.

Multi rig with a long shank for me on a snowman. About 0.3 -0.5cm gap between bottom bait and ring. Or on a micro swivel pushed tight to it.

Rig ring sliding free and easy on the hookshank, stopped from sliding round the bend by a hook bead, or a plain simple line aligner over a knotless knot hair with a sliding loop to put the pop-up on the hair.
