Mike Kavanagh's original intention was to have a 2mm ring to protect the braid loop from being frayed by the end of the wire in the hook eye (not the ring on the braid loop for the bait, but the one on the hook shank). I find that if it's included then it has a habit of falling off.
I notice Korda do not include the ring on their pre-made multi-rigs.
What are peoples thoughts on the need for it - does the braid really get frayed by the end of the wire at the hook eye.
Or do I use a tiny blob of glue to hold it in place until its needed?

Not needed in my opinion mate. I definitely wouldn't superglue it because it would affect the rig mechanics I have used the multi since I was a kid and never had it fray even in prolonged fights in weed.

Used it for over 20 years and never had that happen either.

Well that is 2-0 then - I've put the extra ring on the rigs I've just made up - but I wont replace them when they fall off. Thank you

Wouldn't bother with it Tony, the coating on the our braid will be more than good enough protection. It's my go to pop up rig and have never had one fray even a tiny bit
