Depends how coloured the water is. If visibility is halfway acceptable i.e. a couple of ft or more they'll work fine. I personally have no confidence when visibility is just inches i.e. during a thick algae bloom.

It's a subject of debate with zigs but in lower visibility perhaps adding some flavour/scent could be an advantage.

Just my fishing but found it made no difference to my catch rate when soaked in betalin or betaine. Stopped bothering after a couple of trips

I agree, if anything I found attractors and flavours made them less effective.

The way I look at it using an attractor on a zig is giving the fish an unecessary decision to make.

Rather than start a new thread thought i would add to this.
Im considering trying zigs more and more but the venues i fish at the moment are only about 6-8ft

Is it still worth using them?
I feel like they could be pulled to a bottom baited area in water of that depth

the problem is gazza if they aint in a feeding mood they wont drop. if you can place a zig at there depth right in the eyeline of a carp you can get a take even off fish that had no intension of feeding. they might not be feeding but its hard for them not to sample something that's right in front of them. I wasn't hungry today and the missis brought a KFC back and slapped in front of me.... enough said

If the water is only 6ft to 8ft deep I would try fishing different lengths of ZIg to see where the fish are. Tie them all at 6 feet if tying at home and them you can cut them down on the bank, I'd use 2ft and 4ft as a stater, with different coloured foams, if a foot or two from the surface try black and in mid water either yellow or red, this works to good effect on a water I fish, be prepared to change to find out what works.

What's the best (strongest) zig line? Thinking of trying this with a zig float but needs to be strong as dont want to risk losing a fish at range.. I'm thinking 10lb or even 12lb..
I think zigs may work but I'm reluctant to use them with big fish and a fair bit of weed..

Have a look at Rig Marole Specimon mate. I've had 30s on the 10 lb stuff and not struggled one bit.
Are you sure?
