Anybody use a nice simple rig like this and a wafter ? Thinking of using supple braid on a small silty lake I'm on, everyone uses chod rigs or ronnie rigs but thinking of using this rig around 10 inches with a wafter, the spot I'm baiting is only 20 yards out so think it might be the one instead of a blatant chod rig, can I have your opinions please cheers 👍

Nice and simple but effective mate. On my syndicate which is quite soft and silty if fishing a bottom bait I've been using the slip d rig and done well on it.

Do you use a supple braid ? And what hooks do you favour ? Seen a version of this that Steve Cliff uses with a wide gape hook and it looks really good, no tubing or anything nice and simple

Used braid [ outer coating of Hydrolink ] for my edge fishing a lot summer just gone, it performed excellent just knotless knotted with plastic corn.
Started using size 10 Korda wide gapes and went up to size 5 Ace long shanks, both worked well, in-line leads, short 3-5 inch hook links & putty up the line.
I found when fishing into silt with fish feeding well, the smaller leads I used at first were getting moved & dragged about causing the hook to catch on leaves, twigs etc, a change to heavier leads stopped this happening.

Have a look at his other one as well, cant remember the name, its basically the same rig but tied with a coated braid like n trap. Ive done quite well on that one, I found the coating helped to make the presentation a bit better than the supple braid version on the flat bottom ive been using it on.
Something I also found was that using size 6 hooks I got done a few times but I changed to a size 4 and it hasn't happened since (well that I know of, before changing had a few occasions when the alarm let out a few bleeps and the line tightened then just went slack again as if it had been spat)

Anyone else just use a nice simple rig like this ?

yeah i do.
sometimes i add some shrink tube line aligned other times not.
basic rigs imo mean you have less to worry about and can focus on other areas of your fishing

I thought the coated braid example was for using with a pop up and a little break in the braid and a split shot to hold it down. He said something about making a tiny bend in the braid above the split it shot so it was like a mini hinged stiff rig..

Yes, but it also works perfectly well with a wafter in my experience

Personally I find a wafter works better on a shortish rig from 4 - 6 inches.
It could be me and the hooks I use maybe? Let me know how you get on
