I think this is a great idea...

It gives an option for future generations to get them out...

A magnet would grab hold of a ball bearing no problem.

Depends on what system you're using. I've used 1.5oz leads in my small pva bags before on a short hooklink, they would rarely come off only when I loosened my tail rubber onto the lead would it drop. I'm not sure I'd get the same results with a 3-4oz lead but I've never had that problem.
