Exactly that
Same as in Africa, building them schools and communities to enable them to exploit their resources, hearts and minds and all.
I have read quite a bit and watched quite a bit on them out of interest

#56. So it's OUR governments fault....eerrrmmmmm.NO!!!!!!!
Back on topic let's all make a massive effort to support our local tackle shops, not Angling direct and it's hunt for a monopoly.
Let's also ask where is that made before we make a choice..... unless the Chinese start to provide free masks and ventilators etc for the whole world it has effected then I won't be supporting their economy one bit.
Makes my blood boil how they have now reopened Wuhan and are now set to profit fro something they blatantly didn't even try and control.

If they would have dealt with it properly then the rest of the world leaders wouldn't have had the opportunity to act stupidly.
The major difference is the world leaders have openly been stupid about the whole situation, the Chinese covered theirs up creating a much bigger issue for everyone else. And now they are the ones benefitting from all the turmoil with their cheap manufacturing of sometimes sub standard ppe. Fancy that.....

"We can all sit on a forum and say 'I wont buy anything Chinese ever again' but realistically do you think they would notice if you didnt? or if 1 million people didnt? Unless the entire world bans Chinese imports & exports to China (including people) its doesnt really make them take an notice does it."
You would, they would and so would the UK importers. What does the UK company do when it's products don't sell? Do nothing and go under? It's twofold, they have to get you to buy their products again or someone else will step in. Maybe that could be a UK manufacturer and we wouldn't be in the same ***** again where we can't manufacture anything we need quickly if this type of thing happens again. You've also all the spin offs that a strong manufacturing base brings to a society.

I think what they should do when this ends stop wasting money forget new railways a smart motorways cut back on aid and really help manufacturing low rent low rates and taxes as long it's agreed there end product will be at a affordable price it's been hard for businesses to work here to expensive so they go bust or charge the earth for there product might be able to produce again

there are also manufacturers using, for example, Japanese tooling and design to produce and assemble in China.
They won't necessarily be the cheapest option because there are tariffs on those outfits, they can just supply the demand easier.
Is the main problem not how the vast wealth is used to buy up land, property, debt, etc. Rather than products themselves.
There's also not going to be any money left in our economy to invest in producing anything for a while

Does that make an impact on China? Hardly. you are impacting the business manufacturing over there. You prove my point exactly in what you say...if there is no demand for their product they just change product they manufacture, same as the business will change manufacturer? Or do you think the Chinese companies would sit and do nothing and go under but others wont?
I'm not defending China, I've quite clearly said that in my posts, I just think people need to look deeper than "the virus came from China so lets boycott all Chinese products" and actually realise why they weren't boycotting China before if all this stuff was happening they are so against. I've never heard anyone say about boycotting China until the last week or so, the sole reason being this virus outbreak. If your reason to boycott is SOLELY due to this virus and the way they handled it it just seems ridiculous.
Maybe i'm just a little annoyed that the people I see saying it on my faceache are the same people who wanted foreigners out but now applaud them for keeping the country running & the same people that clap the NHS but vote for a party that cheered when they blocked them getting pay rises. Fickle people with little integrity.
I suppose it boils down to the products in question though...I.E. there is a golf swing aid, it is a bit of plastic pretty much, nothing too special. £25 from the company who 'invented' it. £4 from China. Now would you pay an extra £11 for a mere bit of plastic just to support the company, which are clearly overcharging for it and feed their greed??
In any case, like I said, the boycott needs to be global, and it needs to happen with import and export bans put in place. Driving down demand, etc. takes years to hit the manufacturers, they see it coming and diversify well before any substantial losses occur at their end.
I am not sure how AD have managed to keep monopolising the industry but I don't think it'll last long. They went from small and brilliant to owning everything and having poor service a lot of the time and plenty don't bother with them anymore.

Spot on, I got a letter from the PM, £5 million spent sending a letter out to tell us to stay inside. Personally I think that money could have been better spent on supporting the vulnerable and key workers in the country instead of a letter which goes through many hands and risks infecting a lot of people only to end up in the recycling bin 2 minutes after opening it.

Do you understand how Chinese companies and the ruling communist party work? All companies have card carrying party members on the boards. The aim of the company is to strengthen the Chinese state and fund it's ambition's. You could say the bivvy you bought pays for the detention and reeducation of millions of Uighars. Or pays for the 7 aircraft carriers they're building. Or the bullets used to break up democracy rallies in Hong Kong.
You impact Chinese business you effect the ruling Communist party
So I'm not sure what your point is. Let alone proving it.

A better idea. We stick a 25%+ import fee on any business buying goods from China, takes the control away from the Chinese and gives our manufacturing businesses a chance to compete, after all, the fore mentioned are doing nothing for our economy, jobs etc. Other than importing cheap crap to line their pockets and supporting Chinese manufacturing. Make it 50%
Hey, isn't that similar to what Donald was doing

There's only the US and possibly the EU that could stand up to China in a tarrif war. Individual countries would be denied access to Chinese market's.
