Not used the c clip things so can't comment on them, but yeah I guess on a weak link it would be ok, if not a bit of a faff.
I just don't get the need for people to drop leads, it really isn't needed. And if people really want to then they should be using stones tied on rather than leads. I dread to think of the amount of lead sitting on the bottom of some of the busier places these days

In theory the pb products hit n run lead clip setup is probably the safest out there but doubt anyone bothers to use that instead of a standard lead clip . I use these in the rare occasion I dont use a heli setup
You are left with just the hook link in the carps mouth
See below

No problems Mate, I know what you are saying about inlines, and whether they can release.
Me personally I played with various systems or items so that the lead could come off if I got snapped off.
The things I found were that neoprene sleeves on the base of the tubing through the lead and rubber tulip beads allowed the lead to come off the swivel if you got snapped off.

Jon,
Thanks for putting up this link - great in principle. Love what they are doing technically. Not sure i'd want an alien head as a weight - But I'm going to look into this option more.
Thanks

I'm also a lake owner and last year put a rule in banning the dropping of leads. Not one member complained, which did surprise me.
This year I streamlined the rules, including the one about the dropping of leads and yet most of the members from last season have carried on fishing the same as last year.
Personally I haven't dropped a lead, or used a lead clip in about six years.

A friend of mine goes to a certain lake in france every year , when he gets there he buys leads from the owner at a nominal price and only those leads can be used at the lake . All of those leads have a ball bearing inside which the owner uses to collect the dropped leads every winter by magnet fishing as most anglers are fishing regular spots when they go . great idea and wouldn't work on every lake but food for thought for any responsible fishing owners

It must be a very special magnet to latch on to a relatively small ball bearing encapsulated in lead.

Must be a very big ball bearing and an electro magnet so powerful that you could not operate it if you have a pacemaker fitted.

That isn't real surely?
just sounds to me like the lake owner has found a way to make a few extra quid by making people buy his leads
That isn't real surely?

Really good post thanks - thanks for taking the time to add it.
I think its fair to say that everyone is in agreement that dropping the lead isn't a good thing.
I did catch a fish earlier this year, still trailing a small lead - and it made a mess - so there are a few things to consider.
Inline leads i don't have an issue with. They aren't getting dropped.
If people are using a lead clip - then I need to find/create and enforce an alternative.
There has to be big mindset change in the carp Angling world - Somebody put it well in a previous reply - If i saw somebody stood on the bank throwing bits of lead into my lake - I'd probably slap them... yet I allow it everyday.
Thanks so much for all the comments. It's confirmed it is an issue that needs to be tackled sooner rather than later.
Cheers

you may be surprised at the number of people that fish inlines as drop off style the lead has the rig swivel plugged into the bottom but instead of a leader going through the inline it goes outside then through the top rubber which is pushed onto the lead. on a take the lead pulls free

I don't agree with lead dropping but I tried drop off inlines on a French lake where normal inline lead were not allowed but found the lead dropped off far too easily for my liking, so I took them off and went over to normal lead clips to get more control on how much pressure is needed to release the lead.
