Sort of but it works completely differently as there is no hinge point. A turbo german (can barely bear to write the stupid name) is more similar to a ronne
Tungsten wise, yes, i used a big blob an inch and a half from the hook. Decent rig

Anybody used the German rig quite long say 12 inches ? I want a rig to fish snowman hookbaits over a silty bottom on lead clips, 15mm bottom bait and a 10mm pop up, this looks good and obviously very simple to tie, anybody used it with a snowman ? Just worried about the separation between the hook and bait.

Hi Pal,
Ive used the German rig with snowman baits and caught well. I mainly use it with wafters and always get nailed dead centre bottom lip, and good hook holds.
The rig works as its on a stiff boom, so ive never used it over silt, as i think there's better options for these conditions. I was worried the lead would get buried and cause the hook link to sit awkwardly.... But i may be wrong

The D is a fixed loop unless you buy the ready made rubber D's.
German you can remove the hook bead so change to swivel, screw etc so more versatile.
Tie them whatever length- 12-14" in softer silt. Match what the lakebed requires really.

Yeah I use the German rig as my main wafter rig, I fish it around 13-14" long, with a 16-18mm wafter.
Hooklink is Gardner Ultraskin super-soft, with a PVA foam nugget on the hook, with a size 4 Mugga.
No leadcore or rig tubing, but around 15ft of Gardner Mirage flurocarbon in 30lb.
I've also caught well on this with a snowman (16mm/12mm)
Had 6x UK forties this season on this exact rig, it's my most confident setup.
I fish longer looklengths with all of my rigs now, with larger fish - I think you sometimes need to give them a bit more rope, due to the amount of suction and current they generate when they're feeding next to your hookbait.
