That's pretty much what I'm doing, experimenting. I know the KD is a fail safe rig but I always wonder how many times I could be missing bites. Will see how it goes and if I don't see an improvement I'll be back on the ever faithfuls!

Personally I would use a helicopter lead system when using a Ronnie on a stiff boom as it definitely would present better on all bottom scenarios , you may get away with a lead clip system on some bottom areas but I would be paranoid about the boom sticking up if the lead buried slightly into the bottom

I use the Ronnie rig on a helicopter setup with Korda boom I feel the helicopter lets the stiff material sit well. I use a curve shank hook for pop ups with Ronnie and switch to a wide gape hook for balance baits and bottom baits, I also use the esp Ronnie clips as this lets you change out the swivel and hook quickly and I feel give the rig a hinge that helps. The other rig I use is a version of the multirig that can be used with bottom baits, balanced baits and pop ups there is a video on youtube under “go to rig mike holly”. Both allow the hooks to be changed without wasting hooklink material and both have been giving me perfect hook holds, no lost fish and can be used with all hookbaits like you asked for.

Anyone who tells you to use a ronnie over a multi rig is either an idiot or have never used a multi rig properly

The main reason I'm not a fan of the multi rig is being done and it not resetting properly having the hook pulled up. For this reason I will never use the multi.

oh dear... a muti rig is sooo much better, it's worth the risk as you will get more bites.
it is simple to make, doesn't have all those metal bits and it hooks better if you set it up correctly..
Just dismissing it because it because it might not be able to reset after being pulled hard is not a good idea..

Lol.
What's so much better about it?
Sounds like a comment that hasn't really been thought about.

There's a good chance the author of that comment was on his way home from the pub when it was sent, downer kebab in hand

Ah yes, the old “everyone is entitled to an opinion, but anyone who disagrees with me is an idiot” stance

Made with sound mind!
The ronnie was created so that tackle companies can flog you as many pointless components as possible
I have tried the ronnie on runs waters probably 10 ish times. I have only had 1 properly hooked fish. Others have been hooked in the top lip, double hooked, have been in the corner and have torn a fair bit or have come off. This is with size 4 mugga or size 5 trighammers
I have used the multi rig in various guises for about 10 years and have had literally hundreds of fish on it to 46 in the uk and 68 abroad. I use it for pop ups, wafters or bottom baits, rarely drop fish and it is made of only 3 components.
Yes this is my experience but for me, the ronnie has proven to be rubbish. Even a good friend of mine who swore by it for a couple of seasons has stopped using it because he is tired of dropping fish which on the lakecwe are fishing is not something that you can tolerate

Completely disagree, but I'd have wrote the exact same paragraph 2 years ago, till a mate convinced me to give the Ronnie a try after he terminated places on it, I used the multi for around 10 years and it was great apart from the odd tangle, infact if I'm ever fishing in the edge and using a pop up rig the multi is what I still use. But if I'm using a pop up out in the pond over bait, a Ronnie with a stiff boom on a helicopter has been my go to for the last couple of years, it provides solid hook holds and I very rarely lose fish. I can fish my preferred small pop ups and never get tangles, had the same 2 booms on my rods for the last 3/4 months and they are still perfect, it's just a brilliant rig in my opinion, I was the first person to doubt and ridicule it but I've completely changed my mind, they are both brilliant rigs and definitely a time and place for either, use what your confident in 👍

A bit strong how you put it, it isn't that bad
, but yeah, i agree. All over the place hooking, pulls and twitches has been my experience with the ronnie. I made a vow to stay clear off it. It all looks very sexy, good theory behind it as well, but in practice it has performed pathetic in comparison to my usual combi type rig. And believe me, i've tried to make it work as advertised

The Ronnie rig wasn't created by a tackle company......just pushed by them.
Hooking wise. A Ronnie rig works in exactly the same way as a multi rig. It's just a slightly smaller “aligner” and the multi works in the same way as a Chod/stiff hinge but again slightly smaller it tied conventionally.
The multi is super easy to change a hook but has the MASSIVE downside that if it gets picked up and discarded (which happens a lot more than we think) it is then set at a completely different angle. Essentially a different rig. Yes that can still hook carp which it does. But it's not as effective and not as intended.
As for ronnies being bad hookers. I think that's much more dependant on the way the fish are feeding, I must have been fishing for fish that compliment the Ronnie as haven't had more than a few hook pulls, I can only remember 2. The mechanics are sound on both rigs in the right circumstances.
I would never use a multi rig. It's A confidence thing as I know much better anglers than me use and catch on them.

Thing is a Ronnie Rig is essentially a low down to the lakebed pop-up rig, with the advantage of the ability to change the hook with minimal effort, and in theory resets itself after an aborted or dropped take.
A Multi-rig has the same ability, with the exception of resetting, but can also be fished higher off the lakebed, and can also be used for bottom baits, wafters, critically balanced or snowman baits. Martin Locke fished it as his Kebab rig. Different baits on the hair, or bait spike.
I prefer the Multi-rig for my fishing, but have used the Ronnie Rig, and caught, when I fish it low over bait on harder bottom areas. In silt I don't think it fishes 'right', whereas the Multi-rig seems to cover more bases, because of the possibility of fishing different buoyancy baits for me.
I've caught on that with pop-up baits 50mm off the lakebed, or trimmed down pop-ups low, and with the bottom or snowman baits.
The Multi-rig is, I think more versatile, but not always the answer.

For me though. I don't need to have a versatile rig.
How much effort is required to change a rig.
I've got 2 pop up rigs, 1 bottom bait/wafter rig and 1 rig I use for small solid bags.
AND let's have it right, who says a Ronnie can't be used for Bottom baits, snowmen and wafters?
