We're a small country with a small / ever shrinking manufacturing capability so whilst its nice to look at things through rose tinted spectacles whilst waving that Union Jack it's not going to happen.
You only have to look at the UKs struggles with this pandemic - shortage of gowns, reagents, ventilators, critical care beds & PPE.
Having to charter a plane to China to pick up 2.5m pcs of PPE this week.
Other European countries have done much better than us, I think we're better off in Europe as it's clear we can't stand up by ourselves

I remember we did alright before belonging to Europe we had brexit the people don't want to belong to Europe and the reason that we have struggled to get ppe is because all the world wants it be better to find out how this started and punish those responsibility not keep running down the people that are doing there best to keep us alive I wouldn't want there job and the massive responsibility it holds

I think you're totally wrong –
PPE, I can walk for 15 minutes from leaving my front door to where two factories once stood, where they used to make PPE for most of Europe and the Military, a company called Vernon Carus
It‘s a while ago now, but the ratio was something like – cost to make one item here/for the same production cost in China = 150 of the same item!
Which you can expect when you factor in-
~ No Pensions to Pay
~ No Holiday Pay to pay
~ Zero working rights
~No Sick Pay (If your ill get off site and go back to your Paddy field!)
~ Cheap Energy Bills (as they don't give a toss about C02 emissions)
~ Cheap raw materials (Don't give a toss about destroying the environment getting it)
The list is endless; China is on a Parr with a modern version of the Victorian Sweat Shops that sparked the birth of Trade Unions in the civilised world, but with China it seems a case of “Out of sight out of mind” attitude prevails, and the only priority is “Profit, Profit, and more Profit!”

Also look at the over management within the NHS, all the service providers Inc ppe contracted to private company's milking it and when they can't meet the demand other suppliers have to go through them so they still get their markup. Senior managers that don't know how to run a hospital.

There are not many companies in the U.K. that can compete with that, and that's the sad reality
We could make premium products in the U.K. like we used to do but what will happen, same as before, they will copy them and under cut the manufacturers. Some people need to open their eyes because all these businesses flogging over priced Chinese crap are doing nothing for the economy in this country or the people who buy their products by creating jobs. They are simply buying and selling mass produced cheap crap, minimum outlet maximum profit and supporting the Chinese economy by doing so 🇨🇳
Remember, a lot of them are nothing more than Sales Outfits waving a fancy badge for the products they are flogging. They are doing nothing for the U.K. other than providing a product to line their pockets.

To be fair the people importing cheap rebranded tat are generating jobs and tax revenue with transportation, marketing and sales. We just miss out on the manufacturing
If we were to move back to uk manufacturing, to keep to realistic pricing, sales would be better made directly to the consumer with minimal marketing.

How many of the GB only advocates have also advocated Bank Tackle on here? Surely one of the worst offenders for shipping dirt cheap stuff over from China at a huge mark up?
I'm well aware that Korda etc also buy their terminal tackle from factories in China, but at least there is a bit of design and R&D done in this country. Still not great.
But companies like Bank just straight rip off that design and R&D and undercut the prices selling direct, therefore also cutting out the tackle shops.

I think there is a balance to be had. Dirt cheap stuff as you say fine, import it from China or wherever.
Anything that requires a bit more skill e.g. rods, reels, alarms, bankware, hooks etc try to buy British if you think there's merit in doing so.
Is it possible to buy a British made carp reel? I guess not due to the assembly being so labour intensive.

I can't see the logic here?
To have a completely British made reel you would need the tooling to make hundreds, if not thousands of individual components. You would also need the availability of a wide range of British made materials produce these components. The cost of assembly would be minor compared to this.
Making a British made swivel, for example, is much more plausible. Machinery for minimal components and a single material and coating treatment.
The reality is that they would probably cost 10x as much and so the Britain First crew would laugh and still buy from Bank.
