Was thinking of giving the Ronnie rig a go, typically use the multi rig but a few people have suggested to try the Ronnie, was just wondering what lead system would be best? I normally like to use a lead clip set up would this be appropriate for a Ronnie?

Ive always used it with a helicopter and a stiffish boom material unless it was particularly grubby. I think the rig sits better when you're not fishing on really firm bottoms using a helicopter, and if the bottom is rock hard id rather use an inline and a bottom bait anyway.

There is no best lead system for most rigs.

Note that, MOST.

You can use an inline, a semi-fixed lead on a lead clip, a running lead, even an helicopter.

What you have to figure out, and this is down to you yourself, what works best on the waters you fish.

Completely agree. Use whatever lead arrangement suits the situation the best.

Do people use Ronnie rigs just for pop-ups or are they as effective fished with bottom/snowman setups?

If I'm on a clean lake bed I will happily use them with a bottom bait.

Google turbo German rig. Basically a bottom bait/wafter version of the Ronnie. It's literally just a Ronnie rig without the ring/loop.

Managed to whittle down my choices as I currently have Ronnies on a Korda Boom and Germans on a coated braid. Just seeing if others think the Ronnie could be an all-rounder so i can maybe stick to the one rig cos of my OCD!!!

Well yes it works. Will a Ronnie work as good as another rig for bottom baits. Maybe not.

If you want an all round rig, go back a few years and 'tie' a hook on with a knotless knot.
That one rig can be used for bottom baits, pop-ups, balanced baits, Snowman or wafters.

Make it line aligned and the hooking potential is almost perfick...
Works with all hooklink materials, braid, coated or uncoated, fluorocarbon or mono.
You can then fish that one rig on semi-fixed, lead clips, inlines, running leads or even helicopter-style.

You could even continue the hair back round through the eye and lighter blob it and make a D-rig.

Been a KD rig user for many a year but finally thought it was time to upgrade and try something else.

I have been using that knotless knot rig for 20 years plus.
It still works!

Occasionally I use something different when I'm sure I'm being 'done', but most fish still come to the basic line aligned knotless knot rig.

Many rigs are fashion to sell tackle, magazines or gain interest on social media.

Look at your fishing, if it still works, stick with it. Don't change just for the sake of change.

I have a simple theory in fishing that works for me:

If I'm hooking and landing fish hooked dead centre of the lip, the hair is right.
If I'm losing fish, or hooking them at the edge of the mouth, lengthen the hair.
If I'm getting fish hooked deeply in the mouth, towards the throat, the hair is too long.

Now don't get me wrong, there are times when you need to change what you are doing and experiment.
On a water, if everyone is doing the same, be different.
Are you sure?

This action cannot be undone.

Yes, continue
