Use inline leads most of the time, if it's not in a bag then a bit of foam on the hook pretty much guarantees a tangle free set up.

Yes. I don't go in for these fancy rigs.
Simple inline lead with a 9 inch hook length.
It worked years ago and whatever other say i don't believe carp have become cleverer over that time.

When not using method feeder I usually use in lines with a coated hooklink. Fox released their version early 90's, prior to that it was MCF. I'm talking not the line going around the lead but through it, slot all the way through 1 half of the lead. I bought them in bulk and when running low Avid brought theirs out, again I bought them in bulk. You don't see that type much anymore.

i still use inlines with a braid hooklength, i get round the tangles by using a 2 or 3 bait stringer/mesh bag on the hook and folding half a piece of dissolving foam nugget over the hook and hair. it works well for me

Are you opposed to using a Running Ring setup?

I use the following kit in Carp fishing, used to use it in my barbel days and it works brilliant. Even with leader on the end of the line.

The Nash run clip is also another option but i have found that works well without the use of a leadcore leader (or leadless)

EDIT, I've been looking for a semi fixed bolt rig set up for a while but for floater fishing. In the 90's it was either Solar or Fox who did a run bead which was 2 different diameters along it's length, the run ring slid over the narrow part snugly and stopped at the fatter part, the floater controller being attached to run ring using a quick link, the whole lot sleeved.. I've used that for floater fishing all these years but I'm running out of the beads and this looks like it might do the job.

Very good set up that is but what about if it's a weedy lake

I use those run rig kits, the run ring doesn't sit snug on the bead it is quite a loose fit and offers no resistance if I want it as a semi fixed I use the tadpole beads.

Do the tadpole beads really work well for semi fixing? After looking at that link I went looking for semi fixed run rigs, I was surprised how few results there were but tadpoles came up. Are they softish so the ring can be snug?

EDIT, the staggered bead and a trip down memory lane in-lines, that bucket is HEAVY

Hi Vossy

You might want to check out Matthew Collins shock and run rig using a lead clip setup with a run ring and tell tale.

I quite like that mate and I have the components to try it. If that little insert he puts in the lead clip is to lock the swivel in place I think I'd prefer just a semi tight fit so the swivel can come out if needed. If it's light enough not to sink a traditional controller float I might try it there too, can't see it being much heavier than what I already use.

yes the Nash lead clips have the two prong pin that locks the swivel in as do most lead clips these days, personally clip in or out I think its a better option than pinching down the eye of the swivel to use the clip as a run rig as some anglers/companies started advocating recently.

I thought so, thanks for confirming

I know you have the option to not add the lock prong but I'm not sure why it's become a norm to lock a swivel into a clip. Perhaps it's just me showing my age but my thought process has always been, if the fish snaps the line whatevers attached should be as small as possible to avoid it potentially snagging on anything, a clip is a fair bit bigger than a swivel, ho hum..lol.

We've gone from inlines to lead clips
I'm sticking with inlines, nice and simple

I use inlines for a lot of my fishing. I make my own and fit a fox tadpole in them so can then be running or semi fixed. I use coated braid and a small mesh bag on the hook and rarely if ever get a tangle.
