When I wind in a rod where I've blobbed the floss the hookbait has either come off or the bait has slipped off the swivel and is lucky to be still attached. What am I doing wrong. I normally cut off the floss for about a 1 CM then burn it till it touches the bait then use the lighter to flatten it.

I like the speed of it but darent use it due to the risk of having rods out with no hookbaits

It might be your baits are very soft. Use extremely hard hookbaits.

If you do use, or need to use softer hookbaits, try meshing them in tights or stocking mesh, and where you have created the twist save the tag ends and tie them to your rig ring.

Why not tie a loop and use a hair stop?

Must say I do this to all my hookbaits and never had any issue. I do use proper hookbaits though, as opposed to say out of the bag boilies. A couple of things you could possibly try:

Use thicker or expanding dental floss, I used to use really thick dental floss from Lidl but they don't do it anymore, it's Dentalux in an orange dispenser. It is on ebay, but it's a bit rich for my liking.

Alternatively, double or triple over some thin floss. It's what I do now.

Or you could try some bait floss caps.

Whatever you choose to do, make sure you swivel is pulled well into the bait

Hope this helps.

just put a little plastic topper on..corn or pretend maggot etc, then blob it, that won't come off and it good to have a little topper anyway..🙂

If you're using straight from the bag boilies as hookbaits they will be getting too soft potentially. Small fish will whittle them off. Is there crayfish present?

Exactly this Braders. I fish soft baits when I drop from a boat. No chance it's coming in intact being dragged through 250 yards of weed, but you can see it's fishing if you go out and check with a scope

What baiting needle are you using? I was using a standard needle but found I had similar issues as the bore it created was meaning the floss would slip... moved over to a fine needle (Fox micro fine needle) and the issue was resolved.

I use a fine gate needle (purple one from Korda) and the baits are wafters and pop ups.

I don't use baits straight out of the bag as I mainly use wafters. No there is no crayfish present

Try a boile needle as opposed to a gate needle.

The gate needle will probably be too wide and creating too big a hole.

Try a nornal baoting needle :-)

When using ‘softer' baits I push the bait on the hook ring swivel slightly further than I would like . I then tie on a bait stop and blob . With my finger nail I then push the bait stop into the bait flush . Stops the birds having them off also 👍

Just tie a loop and use a boile stop. Few granny knots and blob the dental floss. Or use thick fishing line for your loop and blob that that won't come off

Assume you are feeding the floss through a micro ring swivel and effectively leaving 2x equal length floss tags (about 2-3inches)? If so then using a fine latch gated needle is best (eg splicing needle) as you can grab the two tag ends in the latch and pull through the bait easily before snipping and blobbing. Sometimes 'spreading' the fibres before you blob it can make a larger diameter blob when it burns down to the hookbait.

Would avoid standard crook / fine standard baiting needles as they can drop one of the tags ends on harder hookbaits / and or pull through the floss, fraying the fibres and damaging it . . .
