i have been using the sort of in fashion combi multi rig recently and really getting on well with it, but do find using shrink tubing a bit of a faff, especially if i haven't got my kettle with me.
Does anyone use silicon tubing to cover the eye of the hook which is tight enough not to slip, but enough to get over the eye? i have tried a couple of different styles and i cannot get it to go over the eye of any size 4 or 6 hooks i use

It sounds like he is using a stripped section of braid for the loop, the 0.75 esp tubing is ok but i have also used some line aligners the pb products ones have been good for me

I have used a piece of silicone tube to help keep the loop in place when using the multi rig.
I often use it with supple braid so it needs some silicone to prevent slipping. A piece about 1.5 to 2cm long is about right, with 1/3 below the eye and 2/3 over and above the eye, this helps extend the shank and improve anti ejection.

So not the multi rig then?! The multi has no tube and uses coated braid to prevent slipping

If your stripping the coating which is not really what you want to do with the multi as stated the stiff coated section is what helps it from slipping unless under tension when you've hooked the fish you can trap the hooklink with a small hookbead top side of the eye (back of hook).
Pass your doubled over section through the eye then next hookbead on a baiting needle then ring or rig swivel then pass over the hookpoint pull to position and lock hookbead on eye of the hook .

Its just a slip d that the hook can be quickly changed on, i use it for wafters or bottom baits

Which make have you tried? a lot of those for sale are completely different, i would be very surprised if you couldn't get the esp version in 0.75 or 1mm to fit a size 4 hook, i have used the 0.75mm esp silicon tube on many size 2 and 4 hooks

Yes mate I know that, so not the multi rig then lol

Didn't realise the rules of a multi rig stated the coating had to be left on the braid.. assumed it was just the mechanism of no real knot and being able to slide to hook off and on using the loop.
Been trying the .75 ESP stuff but I'll give 1mm a go. Didn't want to be buying multiple packets which might not work, but we'll try that

Seriously dont worry about what anyone else thinks
If you want to use silicone use it
Korda silicone doesn't go anywhere near an esp or thinking anglers size 5 hook lol
I Just bought esp .5 and .75 to try for myself

A multi rig alone is not made from coated braid . It can be anything -the multi part is within the use of the loop (ref its real originator Mike Kavanagh).
Could use a hook bead to prevent slip and the loop closing.

I did manage to get a piece of esp 0.5 on a thinking anglers size 5 but it does help if you twist it on and wet the hook eye

I use 1mm on size 4 and 6, goes over the eye easily enough, but tight enough not to move around once on.
