Aye up gents
I've recently taken carping back up after a longish hiatus, read joined a local club that has 2 lakes to go at both silty.
Just after an opinion on what coated braid to go for, mainly fished helicopter,
Was going down the slip d style rig, so something semi stiff and tungsten coated maybe?
Any opinions/suggestions welcome

As Boris says - ESP range.....good gear mate
ESP loaded, thinking anglers camsoft or tungskin, nothing else comes close to those 3 in my opinion.

personally I don't see too much of a need for coated braids these days. I haven't used one for many many years and with the introduction of the 15lb Korda boom which is suppler (and crimpable) and loop to loop the soft section for your combi slip d, its far superior than any coated braid offering, especially if using a heli setup, you can get away with it being a bit stiffer. Also just change the soft section if needed, booms last for ages. Don't think ill ever used a coated braid again.

Boom more supple than a coated braid? That's not even nearly true

sorry I meant more supple than the other boom breaking strains. Presentation wise using stiff booms I've never reeled in and had the hook link crinkled at all, and I fish a fairly silty lake. Just need to adapt the length and/or lead setup . For me the pros of a using stiffer booms over coated braid out weigh the cons hugely, I just don't think there is a even contest. All my own opinion though. Only time I would change is to a supple braid if fishing solid bags.

Makes more sense lol. Although the versatility of coated braid wins for me every time. Plus, less knots for combi style setups is a big bonus imo

its the OCD that gets me, i can keep hook links bang on same length by using crimps and also I know its going to be anti tangle more than a coated braid and kick away better also and lay flat. Each to their own, all about what gives you confidence

Yeah absolutely, whatever you're confident in. I can get mine exact too with knots. Tak s many years of practice but is achievable. Not sure about the anti tangle thing, I never get tangles. I think feathering the cast, plus keeping rigs very simple with as few a components as possible helps too. The lay flat bit I'm a tad confused about. A stiff boom type link tends to poke up over any obstacles, whereas a braid, be it coated or not, will lay over them and follow contours better?

Too many factors and guessing what is or isn't on bottom also . That's fishing

If they were of equal length of course. The name "boom" kinda makes it obvious?! You don't get many flexible "booms"

Another vote for esp.
Has anyone used the OMC hooklink yet? Looks similar but half the price... would be interested in a comparison v esp

Boom & braid loop mostly.
No daft expensive coated braid.
No cut through plastic outer coating.
No tangles.
