What is everyone using for the boom section on their Ronnie rigs ? I currently use thinking anglers tungskin but wondered whether a stiffer boom might be more effective, thanks .

Boom by Korda has been working really well for me lately, really neat with crimps at either end

Honestly once you use the gemini booms you wont go near a self made boom again. they last for ages and pretty reasonable too.

Couldn't agree more. Despite having all the bits to crimp my own I bought a few packs of the Gemini products, the Turbo German, Ronnie and Combi.
This was over a year ago now, the quality is superb, far neater than a crimp and very strong. No need for meter's and meter's of Boom and all the other bits, only ever have to change the hook.

Going to give the leaders a crack as my water is gin clear.

Thanks for all the replies . I have ordered some Korda boom material in 25lb to have a play with . Just wondering if there are any circumstances that you wouldn't use the stiffer boom material as opposed to a softer coated material , thanks.

Hard spots for stiffer stuff. Soft booms for soft stuff

20lb amnesia. Semi stiff. Go 30lb if you want it stiffer.

I have been making a few ronnie booms with my 20lb amnesia and thought I'd report back.
I knotted to the ronnie swivel loop using a once through the eye and 3 turn grinner. A blood knot also works well.
At the other end i tied a simple loop using a two turn overhand loop. A figure 8 wasnt as reliable.
They were tensioned using a pair of pullers and the knots were reliable and strong.
Care needs to be taken to lube and slide the body of the forming grinner knot down to the eye and allow it to snug up before putting full tension on it.
Once stretched with a couple of pullers the turns of knots almost melt together and it lies nice and straight.

Btw: a grinner knot was chosen as the tag end can tuck away leaving the end tidy, and I left the tag a bit long so it was a tighter fit in the tungsten weight.

The 20lb amnesia boom is doing great, I've had a few fish on them recently.

Notice the little tungsten weight, i still leave this on even when using a bottom bait and it still works fine.
I firmly believe that everything gets picked up, but it's how easily a rig is ejected thats the issue.
When it warms up i will fish one with and one without and try and compare.

You pretty much do what I do. Don't know if you have tried it, but a Rapala knot loop also works.

20lb Amnesia for me as well, although 30lb if I want a stiff boom.

Even with Amnesia I have found black is slightly more supple than clear.

I use 30lb black amnesia if it's on a clean silt. If I want something more supple then iq2 .

I have changed up to amnesia 30lb for my Ronnie boom material.
The 20 was OK for pop ups or wafters but it wasn't stiff enough to push out a bottom bait.
