This has just come up on my FB page ....and fairplay and utmost respect to him for showing this ...it did make me squirm a little bit as i dont like seeing people in pain ...and also i live in sunny Spain so trying to stay out of the sun is hard work at this time of year and i very rarely wear any suncream !!! .....i hope he makes a speedy recovery

I'm off to redmire next week for a few days and I hadn't even thought about sun cream. I was just intending on keeping in the shade during the worst of it. But this has really made me think. I'm gonna go home tonight and see if I've got any P20 left from holiday and if I have it's going in my bag. If not I'm off to the shops. Fcuk going through what he's been through. I wouldn't handle it.
Ah! Just seen he has posted about his cancer. Brave man and good on him. Factor 50 is the very minimum protection level one should be seeking.

Yes,a brave and effective interview. Gave a good insight into Danny's life and motivation, just sad it came to this. melanoma is a horrible thing, and I hope he beats it.
As a fair skinned Brit living in the Southern US, my use of sunscreen has not been rigorous enough. I need to do better (and my wife has been telling me this a long time too).

I'm light skinned and in no way, shape or form compatible with the sun! But like most, I have on occasion forgotten to take any sun cream. I've now (as of today) got a bottle specifically for my rucksack which will live in there permanently and I'm even considering one of those long sleeved UV type tops - maybe even one of the ones Danny referred to in the podcast as some of the money goes to charity. It's definitely worth being extra careful!

Most are not aware being close to water intensifies the UV and most don't give it a second thought .
I wouldn't wish this on anybody and was truly shocked that he has this .
I have never been a Korda fan as everybody knows and been banned for it .
In my opinion Danny is going through hell and I wish him a speedy recovery to this tragic episode and the way he is trying to get the word out to save other anglers and sun worshipers from this tragic form of cancer
He has gone stratospheric in my estimation of him and I hope he does get better .

The last few years I have been really aware of the dangers of the sun. Cover up and sit in the shade always wearing a hat now.
Well done Danny for speaking up to warn and remind everyone of the dangers. Hope he is on the road to having the all clear in the future.

I never used to be his biggest fan, but listening to his previous podcasts really changed my viewes of him. He is an exeptionally passionate man who absolutely adores fishing.
One thing this podcast really hit more to me was tge difference with private health care. He said himself how fortunate he was to be able to use private. How worlds apart the level of care for him has been, especially hearing the podcast with frank warrick where he had a stroke, and the hospital just sent him home.

Just had the same,had a stroke on 5th May and did not get found until 14th May.I have been very lucky,it was a shock at 43 I can tell you.

Thanks guys,I have been very lucky as I have only got blurred vision in my left eye which hopefully will improve with time.The medication I'm on has now made gout flare up in my feet but I'm on medication for it all.It just makes you realise how fragile life really can be

Strokes are viewed in a weird way by a lot of people in this country. In that they are seen as an older person's problem. Like dementia etc. We don't look at a lot of other illnesses like that. We've just seen a super fit footballer have a cardiac arrest in his thirties and although shocking no one has said to me “ that's young to have a heart attack “ or “that's young to have cancer”. This age related thing around stokes needs busting so that the signs aren't missed in younger people. My wife had two stokes when she was 21 years old.

Though during covid NHS have had to council non life threatening procedures I can only praise the NHS and it's staff for the efficient way they have helped me this year. I was unfortunate enough to have been diagnosed with cancer on the 4th of January ( a small lump on my neck turned out to be a largish tumour please have any lumps checked out!). I underwent a seven hour surgery on the 18th January spending five days in hospital and four months at home recovering, I went for my six months check up today and received positive news but will be monitored for the next five years. The staff and the NHS have been fantastic through this traumatic period of my and my families life certainly not “second class”. The last few weeks before spawning I managed to do a few overnight sessions and even fluked a couple of mid thirties and several twenties.

Glad you have had good news and everything went well.All the NHS staff I have had look after me during all my tests,scans etc... have been absolutely amazing.I decided take part in a clinical trial and have had bloods sent off to Denmark to try and help with strokes in younger people,if me doing that even helps one person in the future then me suffering a stroke has not been for nothing

Thanks for the offer Wayne, I've mostly been ok only my left shoulder has restricted my long range casting where they removed 50 lymph nodes from my shoulder/chest.
If only that offer was available when I fished the west Warwick in the early nineties God I hated that walk!!

Re DF Podcast and linking to Kens post below, DF mentioned that cancer is a personal thing and something we don't like to talk about, I think that's a problem that needs addressing, it's not as if it's a macho thing to carry on regardless, and yes you can talk about it without being seen to want sympathy.
I hope his podcast can inspire more people to talk about it and to get themselves checked out.

Got to admit that Danny's Podcast shook me up, I have worked on the roofs for 30 years plus been burnt many times, enjoyed the lads holidays and done the exact same probably because you feel better with a tan (Vain to be honest), you feel with Danny that he is a friend even though I've never met him and seeing him like that on the podcast is terrible, the plus side is now education and push for more industry awareness as its not mentioned enough to be honest and hope the lads mentioned on this post make a full recovery

I listened to it last night and was quite moved by it, in parts. Whilst not looking for sympathy his recollection of his miserable childhood was quite moving. He came across very well. Yep my father was recently diagnosed with T-cell non Hodgkin's lymphoma the prognosis is still good but time has been wasted because they couldn't decide between lymphoma and glandular fever, my aunt spoke to her private healthcare provider and they claimed they would of had him diagnosed within 5 weeks it's been just over a year

Yes I thought it sounded strange but John knows his onions. I thought the Norwegians, Chinese and Koreans were big into factory fishing vessels for Krill. In theory it is a regulated industry so should be sustainable.

I thought it was more the krill hydrolysate that was at risk due to only 2 ships in the world producing it and one had broken down.It was more cost effective for the company to have a new ship built than repair the old one,which will obviously take time so it halved production for the foreseeable.

Not the Danny one, but the latest one with Mark Simmonds...did anyone else think he came across as a bit of a helmet? Hearing people on podcasts usually endears them to me, but not this time. The clip where he was going absolutely berserk when Ringwood tackle painted his reels pink (in retaliation for him letting a load of mice loose in the shop) he'd totally lost his rag, the guys made out like he was almost laughing but he wasn't in the slightest. He was raging. Didn't seem very knowledgable about any other subject than his fish either.

Simmo is who he is, and he's a character. These people will always get some people's backs up, but they are few and far between these days and the world is a better place with them about in my opinion. There are too many boring people who take life far too seriously.

Reading between the lines I think his ideas on otter control probably wouldn't sit to well with a corporate giant like Korda..

You wouldn't buy a fish from someone because you didn't like their character rather then judge it by the quality of the fish?
As said i think he is a bit marmite, but the one thing with him is you get what you see. I've worked with people with the same personality in the past and they are a dying breed. They will put you through the mill a few times but once you have proven yourself you will always be looked after and supported.
He did come across as incredibly knowledgeable about the fish breeding and stock management and did concede that he had made mistakes in the past.

yes i agree, i dont think simmo is the sort of person to deal with predation in the right way

They're taking a hiatus. Simon has decided to stop doing them so they need to find a new host. There is one more due for December release and that's it for now.

bought back memories of modding the Heron bite alarms with platinum GPO relay contacts and then later
driving to Henry's electronics shop in Edgware road I had a guy in there weighed up that used to give me a carrier bag of circuit boards leds etc for peanuts and I use to mod the optonics when they came out with extension boxes etc I was always interested in electronics later passing my radio ham licence great times and memories with my brother in law Terry
we were a great team and I do miss those days it was a lifetime ago

Just a heads-up that the latest one (Clive Williams) is great. Defo the best since Rich Stewart started doing them imo. He covers the early bent-hook/Longfield stuff and loads about Savay including the tragic Keith Selleck/Clive Rigsby incident (RIP). A really good listen.

It's funny, I've had a few mates that are much less keen on Rich than Simon. I do think I probably preferred Simon, he was happy for Toby to be part of the conversation which I don't think Rich is. And I got a sense of homework and effort to build a relationship prior to the interview with Simon. But each to their own, I'm still listening,😂

Best one for ages , got me maudlin for the fishing I had back in the day , especially as I fished Savay on a day's ticket but at that time I flitted around to much not knowing I had found the best lake in England.
Likes Simon's podcasts better , but won't stop me watching them . Just get a feeling Rich is looking to ask deep questions rather than letting it flow , he has lots of carp knowledge for sure .

I no longer listen to the korda podcast,I always get the impression that rich is trying to pursue an answer to the question that isn't there...he's trying too hard to push the guest,almost investigative journalism,trying to get People to get guests to elaborate....just seems to try too hard,too formal and not easy to listen to.

no denying he's a knowledgeable and a nice bloke, I just don't like how he interviews unfortunately, had he been the first person to host the podcast I would probably think different about it but I really liked how Simon interviewed and was relaxed and knowledgeable but had a feel of having a chat down the pub about it.
