I have been using ESP's tungsten loaded soft for a while and for some reason when its been out in the lake for a while it comes back all curly like a pigs tail? Anyone else noticed this? This semi-stiff is fine.

The semi stiff does it too. As do quite a few other coated braids. I doubt the carp care but it does look crap

Had you steamed it straight before it went into the lake?

No, i don't bother steaming the ESP coated braids, them seem to straighten fine after a day on the rig board.

I think a lot of the time it's twist on the retrieve or cast

I find what causes it is when the outer skin gets stretched and does not shrink back to match the braid inner which does not stretch and it makes the hooklink go all curly. I use Gardner Ultraskin, Black stealth, Jel-e-wyre and Esp loaded and it happens on all. Sometimes it happens when I landed a fish that has got me into weeds and rushes etc but also on rare occasions for no apparent reason when I have wound in. If winding in was the cause, it would be happening far more often.

And if that's the case it would happen every time you tighten your knots down and would be ruined before you even cast out...

Are there Crays in the water? I've seen the same thing on thick mono hook lengths and leaders at times especially fishing margins over clear gravelly bottoms.

It does not happen that way, when you tighten a rig, you are also pulling on the braid inner which does not stretch so therefore the outer coating also does not get stretched.
But if you was to hold a rig loosely and hold the outer braid tightly and pull on it especially over your finger nail and stretch it, that is when you will find it will curl up.

There are mitten crabs in the water that I fish and they are a suspected cause of it as well with them pulling on the rig with there claws getting the bait.

got ya, still think it happens a lot on the retrieve, all my waters are very weedy so bringing it through weed beds on the way in is most likely when it is happening then

Could also be the lakes composition as well, I have used the soft exclusively since Spring/Summer 19 and have had no issues but my rigs are not in the lake for long periods? Little things like this can be very off putting.

Not used the Soft version of the tungsten loaded myself but the semi-stiff stays reasonably straight but the stiff does maintain the curl from the spool, however steaming the line straightens and keeps it that way no problem.

Could be? Maybe when you tighten the knots down? Which knots are you using? I have a small section stripped back at the hook end. Like you mine are placed on a rig board and are good to go.

Ive only used semi stiff. I have never encountered that problem. However ive not fished
In weed. Ive caught 100s of lbs of carp at some runs waters with it and it held up well .
Its why I changed to it last summer in fact. So its not a fighting carp causing it by my experience
