I'm newish to carp fishing
And with all this time on my hands at present, i thought i would educate myself in the art of carping
Mostly on Utube i must add.
I saw a video on the running lead set up. And i thought that's a good set up i'm going to use that
I liked the running set up using the lead clip
Then i saw a thread on here, about the the lead clip version and the online lead version
Both are a bit dangerous if the lake is not mostly weed free
I like the idea of the fish picking up the bait and feeling no resistance
I would just like to know is there a safe version of this set up
Cos in my eyes both are a bit dangerous if you need to drop the lead
Like i said though, i'm a beginner at carping and i might be seeing this right

Enterprise run rings are the best I've found.
Google/YouTube search Keith moors running rig
There's probably about 10,000,000 posts on here to trawl through if you have time, which none of us are short of right now!

So what are the advantages of a running lead rig
Should the lead be fixed to start with,or should the lead be completely free running as Keith Moor
I thought i had it sussed, i'm not sure now lol

Theoretically. improved indication, removes the fishes ability to ‘throw' the hook, no resistance when the bait is picked up, large bore bead increases safety.... that's not to say it's a presentation for all situations.
Those lead clip running rigs are pants in my opinion, but each to their own

The biggest advantage is hardly anyone else uses it.

So it's all about having a good run ring
if the lead gets caught up,you want the run ring to eject the lead when your winding in so it frees the line up
What makes the run ring better then the lead clip
I'm a beginner im just trying to understand all this lol

The Double Bollox was posted elsewhere as a spoof. I was then contacted by a guy who said he had smashed a local "hard" water using it. I have not had the courage to use it myself!
The top rig was my contribution to an old thread looking at spoof rigs/April Fool's rig. It has been archived but it's on here somewhere. Trouble is a lot of the then posters were banned when they left here to form another Forum. Older members will know the posters I am referring to.
I posted them to try to bring a little lightness to the forum at these awful times.
Keep safe, keep well, keep SANE!!!

Hi Magoo! We've not left the house (and gardens) for over 4 weeks now, mate but as far as I am aware the Covidiots have stayed home this Easter, thank God. In the meantime I am keeping myself busy watching old WHUFC vids on the Tube. We had some great players back in the day, but crap managers!
@ Duane: You can only glean so much information from the 'Net and as so much of it is contradictory you end up dazed and confused (as Robert used to sing). Keith's rig video shows what I consider to be the definitive running rig set up but it will not work as intended unless you are using a dense main line, fluorocarbon of sinking braid. Nobody has explained the reasons why and how this works better than Keith so check out that vid, learn and inwardly digest, as they say.
I fished a fixed heavy lead as a matter of course until I came here in 2006 and read Keith's words of wisdom. I have used his light running lead ever since after seeing for myself just how effective it can be. To say it changed my life is perhaps going a bit far, but it certainly changed my carp fishing life!

Just use 17lb x line, it will sink lovely on a slack line, use the smallest lead you can get away with to cast to distance required, a buffer bead to protect the knot, then put your rig on mate, you're over thinking it. You don't need to drop the lead all the time, if you're using the smallest lead you can it won't pick up to much weed the fish on the end will. If you feel there's too much weed use a lead clip and drop the lead. Fish to The situation you're presented with. Fish a nice light bobbin on a slack line with a running rig and indication will be great. Don't ever fish a slack line to snag.

dont fish a slack line to snag?
great advice though thanks

I mean if you decide to fish a run rig on a slack line, don't Ever do it if you are intending to fish up to a snag. The fish will have too much lime to play with and will be dangerous.

No l don't have the baitrunner on and have my clutch set fairly tight don't think it matters what you have your alarms set on

If the swim is in any way snaggy, i.e if there are snags less than about 30 yards away, don't use the baitrunners
You may think its ok but by the time you are awake and out of the zipped bag and bivvy, they will be in the snags
During the day if you want them to run a bit, fine, but don't have the baitrunner loose, have it set (not tight) but just fairly firm.

I watched a vid on Utube today. Danny Fairbrass said when the carp goes into snags. The thing to do is don't panic. He said he's lost loads of carp trying to pull them out. He said the thing to do is let them come out in there own time.
So what he did was just put his rod back on the rod pod, and when the line started pulling off again. He just picked the rod up and started playing the fish again
He said it does take a bit of nerve to do it like that, but it works

That's the way yes mate, sometimes takes 20 minutes before they come out
It does happen occassionally but the thing to keep uppermost in your mind at all times when fishing is to not let carp get into snags, ever
More anglers need to think about how they are fishing at night - if you are sleeping with the sleeping bag and bivvy door zipped up you will need to be fishing a margin rod only (single rod) with loads of room for the carp to run, and on a firm baitrunner setting not a loose one - but preferably, actually, if you want a comfortable sleep out of the breeze and weather you should wind in all your baits - my philosophy is either sleeping or fishing, not both. I don't like sleeping with the door open so I choose one or the other - a restful sleep makes you fish better anyway, and for longer. The lake I fish is too small and snaggy to get inbetweeny and take liberties

My baitrunner reels are Shimano XT 600RB
I suppose it's best not to have the baitrunner on when I fish this style

No mate, if you are near snags don't use the baitrunner
Don't have the clutch jammed right up tight either, just have it fairly tight or you might damage their mouths - if you are pulling line of the clutch and it hurts your hand to do so, then it could also hurt the carps mouth -
Ask the bailiff on the bank if you are unsure mate.
Snag fishing is not everyone's cuppa tea, even some very experienced anglers don't like it. You have to be really confident about what you are doing.
Too much bad snag fishing goes on with anglers who are old enough to know better.

For snag fishing. Fish one rod, tight clutch, awake and on your rod(within hand reach). This is not something to do casually.

Precisely
Tight clutch important - but not locked up totally solid like some reccomend - there must be some give just as the rod is pulling at maximum strain
