Having used an amnesia D-rig for 90% of my fishing for as long as I can remember and for pop ups its been a stiff hinge and I have never felt like I needed to change anything. The only reason for change is bait size and being different to everybody else. my upcoming syndicate is well known for tiny baits and pop ups its a tricky water 5 ish fish per angler a year if your lucky many blank. I want to use 24 mm baits maybe even double 24mm baits and not having enough separation on a D-rig and it being made of a stiff material I will be moving away from that rig. I want to include 20-25mm of separation between the hook and bait and I did think of using a XL kicker or line aligner to extend the shank of the hook. has anyone been using anything similar with good results or bad ?.

I use double 22 or 22mm baits a lot, and just use a simple knot less knot with a wide gape pattern hook and no kicker or tubing, coated braid with an inch stripped above the hook. One of the most simple rigs ever. To be honest using big baits like that I don't think you need to use anything more complicated

Have you thought about a slip D rig on a large hook combi rig.

I get where your coming from ip. The reason for wanting the large kicker or line aligner was to make it harder to eject and effectively making my hook bigger. I used double baits a bit last summer and got really good hook holds. I suppose when they commit to a bit that big especially double baits it's hard to eject them effectively. No mark I haven't when using big bottom baits I prefer a longer hair as opposed to fishing it off the shank on a hookbait swivel

Exactly that, it doesn't fly into the mouth like a small bait so with the extra effort it takes them, it goes in. No need to add any kickers or anything. Imo a nog bait and hook has enough anti eject properties itself. Double baits especially Give it a go, you will soon see

If you want a large bottom bait this rig is the bollox
Sweet Jesus looks a bit agricultural that

Agricultural is good with big baits... Lots use that bollox rig on the continent

I know it's used on rainbow quite a bit. The fish i am targeting are 50+ with a chance come autumn of a 60 so should be fine with it being quite crude

I use large baits a lot. On the stiff d rig I just use a very large D section to get the separation.

i couldnt bring myself to use big double baits with a stiff hooklink too paranoid it will loop up.

With the double bottom baits coukd always drill out a hole in both baits slightly and put some cork in the just to take the weight of the hook slightly. But keep baits on the deck. Iv done it before it works well just on a blow back rig

I use 2x 20mm bottom baits on the reservoir regularly to minimise bream problems, on either 20lb Amnesia, Kryston Mantis or Snakebite left coated, size 4 hook, usually a Solar 101 with a shrink tube line aligner.
I've had very good hookholds as well.

Tied a few up with a line aligner I personally think it's better than without. Thanks for your help guys

Hi.
Can you let me know what you used to tied them up between the boilies?
Thanks

i think you mean to keep the baits together?. when you have done your overhand loop as you would to attach a bait make it bigger so it sits inside the first bait you put on and don't cut the tag end right down leave 5mm and this will make sure your bait cant slide up the hair.
although I think the rig could be made more effective by leaving a gap between the baits.

Like said keep it simple.
Ive used 22mm double bottom baits with knotless knot rig, with a curve shank and line aligner but not a long one (I personally always cut off the tail bit if its a bought one). I used to balance the baits slightly by drilling out and putting a piece of cork between them to hold them together.

You can use a stiff bristle filament, put it through both and melt down on either side - that was how I was shown it

Without using them, how do you think they are better with than without a line aligner? Surely the proof is in the using?

Personally I'd just have a long hair coming from the ring/swivel on the Amnesia D, would give you plenty of separation & movement.

thanks for your input lads. ip I have used double 24mm bottom baits on a line aligner type rig for a little while last season up until winter where I switched over to pop ups. I caught well and never lost a fish so I will probably continue to use that rig. its my opinion that if I can make the hook bigger with a line aligner (quite a long one) it can only help hookholds and aid anti ejection just what I am confident in
i am too concerned about the amnesia looping up with 2 heavy baits on and i dont really want to go down the route of wafters as that will take my edge away as i see it
thanks anyway lads

Putting a blob of putty heavier than the two baits and hook combined 1/3 way down the rig from the swivel should help stop the amnesia looping up.
